Halloween Party Prep – The good the bad and the frightful!

27 Oct

There is a lot of tat out there on the shelves for this Halloween. Parties are getting bigger and better, we have more and more americanized with our love of the holiday! i thought that I would share with you some of the best products out there this year, to avoid disappointment!

Zombie Gnome

The Zombie Gnome is one of my absolute favourites this year, a must have for on the lawn or table at a halloween themed party. it is as hilarious as it is genius, and at £11.95 from Genie Gadget it will not break the bank either. At 30 cm tall and very sturdy I think I will keep mine out all year!

Grr!

DIY Halloween

I love the mouldable glue range from Sugru – perfect for any Halloween projects. It’s bendy, rubbery texture makes it a versatile material and once it cures for 24 hours it is really strong too.

Halloween Make up

If you are on a budget, don’t buy separate pots of face paint this Halloween look for an all in one kit. Asda have a great range this year, I love the skelaton kit for £3. I actually used this and some old green eyeshadow that I had lying around to make my wicked witch face this year!

Budget Halloween Costumes

28 Oct

As far as budget Halloween costume  ideas go it doesn’t get any cheaper than traditional zombie, vampire or ghost.

Vampire

With the right make up, spooky eyes and fangs you can wear any clothing that you already own to complete the look. I can recommend that Scarecrow Love Fangs (available at Amazon for £11 or for ebay £9) these fangs are smaller than most and glue over your own teeth with a special mixture. To begin with they were fiddly, tasted horrible and took a long time to set (I had to do one tooth all over again) but once set they lasted from 8pm – 2am when I took them out. I get the feeling they would have lasted all night so long as I didn’t eat anything! I did however buy a back up tube of denture glue for £2.89 just in case the mixture provided with the fangs didn’t work – as I had read some reviews recommending that I do that. They were really realistic; the smaller size meant they felt comfortable in my mouth after a while, although I never did quite learn to talk without a lisp! To break down the outfit costs:

– Spooky eyes £10 (last one month so can be worn continuously in the day time, or on multiple occasions)
– Fangs £8
– Fake blood £1 (large bottle will last for years)
– Clothes, make up, accessories already owned.

Total = £19

Zombie:
Zombie can be even cheaper, if you are willing to sacrifice some of your clothes for shredding purposes, or have an outfit in mind that seems appropriate:

– Special effect wax £5 (large tube will last for a year)
– Fake blood £1 (large bottle will last for years)
– Make up £2
– Clothes and accessories already owned

Total = £8

Dress up this Halloween

24 Oct

I have decided this halloween to get back to basics with face paints. As a child my parents would make our outfits each year for pennies, and let our spooky make up do the trick! (or indeed treat) My favourite brand (for durability and brightness of colour) is Snazaroo:

The Halloween Face Painting Kit
Boasting enough face paint for up to 50 faces, Snazaroo’s Halloween Face Painting Kit (£12.49 RRP) is a staple for those looking for one all-encompassing pack for parties, which can be shared among lots of guests.

Each kit comes with eight Halloween-themed colours. What’s more, the included instructional booklet contains heaps of inspiration and step by step guides to creating numerous Halloween designs, that will take the horror out of face painting. The more adventurous can dream up their own designs.

Snazaroo Face Painting Sticks
Snazaroo Face Painting Sticks (£4.99 RRP) are a quick and easy way to add a dash of horror to costumes.
Each pack contains four sticks – 1 black, 1 red, 1 green and 1 white – in a transportable, resealable kit. The sticks come in a helpful, crayon shape to make drawing on designs even easier.
