Summer Beauty Guide

28 May

Now I am not going to preach to my lady readers to get ‘beach body ready’. (Though it would be good for readership figures if I did – well done Protein World advertising and PR team!)
I would be a hypocrite if I did as I am the least ‘plastic’ girl that one could meet. I always forget to do my nails (I have only had one professional manicure in my life and that was a birthday gift!) I never bother with fake tan. I have been told I need to ‘sort my eyebrows out’ (though I stand by my view that I would rather have faint little brows instead of terribly drawn on ones) It’s just about all that I can do to remember to condition my hair a couple of times a week!
However, it is for that reason that I love pampering and preening before and during a holiday. On holiday you have time and relaxation on your side, and skimpier clothing to battle with! If like me you don’t normally bother, make the month before your summer holiday that time where you can indulge in ultimate ‘girliness’ invest in some new products and pamper yourself until you feel wonderful. I have put together some suggestions based on the latest beauty items that I have tested:

Tan it up

If you live in the UK, the chances are you don’t soak up much sun. So getting those pearly white…legs out on holiday can be daunting. Never a fan of the fake tan, I realise that the ranges available have come on leaps and bounds over the years, and a more natural look is far easier to achieve. I trialed the Tantastic mousse, cream (with a handy exfoliation mitt) and was pleasantly surprised. Available at www.tantastic.co.uk

Boho Beauty

Large bottles

A firm favourite of mine due to it’s staying power (nobody likes a chipped manicure!) Nails Inc have now launched a boho range. At £15 it’s a bit of a splurge but comes in a large bottle and is very pretty!

Classic beauty

I cannot get enough of the new Joan Collins range. Available at Harrods, QVCUK.com, urban retreat and www.joancollinsbeauty.com with prices ranging from around £12 – £22, there is a real focus on classic timeless colour. The red lipstick and lip liner look amazing, and the liner is so long I have the feeling it will last forever. With the most classy of gold casing, these products will also look great on your dresser. Perfect for simple holiday glam!

Feel good inside and out

We all know that feeling good starts from the inside. I have reviewed two products, the first from Udo’s Choice www.udodchoice.co.uk . The ‘Udo’s Choice Ultimate Oil Blend’ supplies essential Omega 3 to keep you moisturised from the inside out. The capsules are easy to swallow, and the glass bottle is perfect for storing on a bathroom shelf! They are a little pricey however at £19.99, but as with all supplements it is worth looking for the higher doses as ultimately others can be a false economy.

Having taken a dose of antibiotics recently for a chest infection, I was keen to take a probiotic to replace the bacteria in my gut. I tried ProVen’s A-Z Multivitamin & Mineral with Probiotic & Co-Enzyme Q10. This pill has a really high dose of the longest list of vitamins and minerals that I have ever seen – as well as the probiotic. A large pill to swallow, but not too expensive at £10.95 from www.provenprobiotics.co.uk

A Pearly White Smile

Glowing White Sparklers!

A sparkling white smile really goes a long way, on holiday days with no make up a confident smile is all of the natural beauty that you will need.  I trialled Pearl Drops Lasting Flawless White toothpaste for 14 days and I really noticed a difference on my teeth which suffer a lot of red wine and coffee drinking!
It is is available from larger Boots and Superdrug, instore and online, priced £6.99 (75 ml). Go to www.pearldrops.co.uk for more information or follow the brand on twitter @PearlDropsUK.

Verdict: 9 / 10

Jockey Womens Range

For comfort and beauty why not treat yourself to some new summer nighties from the Jockey range. Jockey’s lounge chemises are incredibly cute – though order a size too large as they are quite small fitting!
