As 2015 rushes in I find myself pondering the crazy, busy, varied year that was 2014. Where to start?
In one year I’ve seen the end of an almost eight year-long relationship, the one year anniversary of my brother’s death and many of the unkind and beastly realities that life serves up. Life, as usual, is a balancing act and in 2014 some of the bad has also been served with lashings of good. I’ve experienced fun, love, laughter and all of such niceties on the menu this year. Call me a pessimist, but for me each year is like a first date – it could be the year of your dreams or (more likely) a year that makes you want to crawl under the duvet and start all over again.
I’m not a fan of resolutions – I think we should make goals monthly and always push our lives in the direction that we want. Usually with ‘New Year Resolutions’ they are the same rehashed visions of the year before drunkenly made yet again as though completely forgotten. If I have to make one, it also will be the same one – to make a bigger deal of the brilliant days and not to dwell on the shitty ones!
Thank you to all my friends for bringing the light in and being your typical silly, mad and gorgeous selves. In particular thank you to my family for always loving me no matter what.
I look forward to 2015 being a year of holidays, relaxing, fun, mischievousness (or ‘destruction’ as my university housemates would call it!) career satisfaction, enjoying the moment, and new love. Especially new love – life is better shared and far too short to spend time having an extended Bridget Jones moment and crying into an empty Ben and Jerry’s tub.
I hope that everyone I love is happy and healthy, and if they do have a hard patch to weather out that they know they can rely upon the support of their friends.
Happy New Year!
